Asia and Pacific Region



OWSD has been working hard in Asia and the Pacific since 1997 to improve the number and quality of women scientists, with now 1500 members in the region and several very active National Chapters (see below). The fellowships program has provided full PhD scholarships to over 80 women from eligible countries in the Asia and Pacific region, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. PhD fellows from 25 countries worldwide have taken up their scholarships at excellent host institutes in China, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Turkey. Early Career fellowships have also been awarded to 20 women in Bangladesh, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. OWSD Vice President Atya Kapley is from India. 

 

The OWSD China National Chapter (CNOWSD) was founded in 2009 and is based at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. CNOWSD had 50 Members and 4 PhD Graduates. The Website is: cnowsd.ucas.ac.cn.
